Monday 2nd May 2005

All recovered today. After work saturday i raced home, packed some stuff, picked up a mate and then raced down to Surrey. The weather was very nice saturday, just a shame i don't have air-con in my car. We all got ready then drove in to the city for a chinese then off to the vodka bar, Revolution. It was a brilliant night, met a few new people, met some people that i hadn't seen for ages. Although, i'm not impressed Mike got so drunk that he forgot to introduce me to Becky - I expect you to make that up, Mike. We really did get wasted. We went for another chinese meal after we left the bar and Mike fell - or was he pushed - out of the restaurant, and i don't remember walking back to the car at all. Hopefully i'll get my hands on some of the photos, might remind me of things i've forgotten.

Thursday 5th May 2005

Went out for a drink with Jenn last night, hadn't seen her a while so we caught up on what's been going on. She's off on holiday next week to Turkey. I so need a holiday, i must book some flights to go see mom next week, probably won't be till July but at least i'll know i have something booked. We weren't out too long, then we both raced home to watch Desperate Housewives.

I also just got back from voting, it was only across the square so thought i'd get it out the way now rather than have to queue up tonight when i get home.

Friday 6th May 2005

I am so so tired this morning. I didn't go to bed that late, watched Peter Kay's top of the tower show on five - which was brilliant, i was in stitches, my neighbours probably think i'm crazy. "Garlic bread?! Garlic?!..... Bread?!!" bloody hilarious! Yeah, so, it wasn't that late. But i didn't have any cereal left for breakfast, out of bread too (not garlic bread, i can't stand that stuff) so i'm hungry. At least it's friday and the sun's out!

Happy Brithday Barry!! Hope you have a good one!

Monday 9th May 2005

Not a great weekend, it really didn't start off too well. I got home friday night and was going to have a quiet one in. I went to run the weekly WoW update that they do on a friday and it failed. Ok, no problem, i'll try it again. Failed. That's odd. I went to run it manually but was getting disk errors all over the place - disk not formatted, that sort of thing that gives you goosebumps (if you're as much of a geek as me, of course). I copy what i can off it, which wasn't much as the stuff i wanted to try and save it couldn't access, sods law, innit? I then run check disk. Holy hell, that disk was screwed. It failed to run the first time and i must have run it 5 times altogether and by the end i think it had marked so much of the disk bad that it wouldn't read anything. It was now also making a wicked noise when spinning up. I unplugged it and everything is running fine off my newer 20Gb (that's right, 20Gb!!), and my computer is much quieter now, guess that disk had been going for a while... ah well, from what i can remember was on the drive the most i lost was some photos that i hadn't printed/uploaded. Not the end of the world.

Just chilled most of the weekend after work on saturday. I managed to get some cleaning done around the house. Cleaned the kitchen from top to bottom and the bathroom's gonna get a going over this week too. It almost sounds like i'm spring cleaning, but i just like to do this once in a while.

This morning i almost got run off the road - again - a women in her convertable punto decided to undertake a load of us on the a41 and then as i was driving along next to her in a queue of traffic she decided to just start indicating and moving over. I guess she didn't check her blindspot, pretty sure she heard my horn though as she jerked back over to her lane.

I love mondays.

Tuesday 10th May 2005

Oh! Tuesdays are getting better too!

This morning i go out to my car and it won't start. Floods, almost instantly. But it's happened before, i'm sure i've spoken about it and usually i can sort it with the help of a random stranger that i grab hold of. So i grab some guy that's taking his rubbish out and we have a go at getting it running. No luck, it's not having any of it and the battery is starting to die. I call the AA.

AA man arrives and hooks up his, get this, bluetooth battery monitor and his battery charger. Battery gets charging but isn't that low. We have another go with a bit of juice in the battery but still no good. He takes the plugs out and we hopefully clear most of the fuel out. He then mentioned something about the temperature sensor and i have a quick peek at it and it's not connected - that's right, not connected. The metal clip is missing, that'll explain the flooding. Connect it back up, put the plugs back in, have a crack - woohoo, it's good to go. He checks the battery and pulls off the ignition cable, it is screwed. Very bad connection, fortunately i had another one in my bag - as every web developer does - so he hooks it up and job's a goodun (ha, haven't heard that for a while).

Then he does the paperwork, he checks the mileage and it reads 106660 - yeah, that's right, the devils number is there. I'm not superstitious but it was funny, then he said i was almost out of fuel so i filled him in that when it hits red there's usually about 150 miles left in it.

He also told me this story about when he got called out to some guys in a corsa who had just come off the M4 and had broken down. He told them they were out of petrol and the driver said "no way, look, it's full!". He then asked where they had driven from, "Liverpool". Nice, they had driven from Liverpool and didn't think that it was odd that the petrol hadn't gone down at all, damn, they must have thought they had a very economical car!

Ain't it funny how you think, just for a moment that you've got a few quid spare and then suddenly a million things hit you at once. I knew i had my car tax this month, no problem. I'm expecting my water bill too. But also this month, finally after months of chasing, I get my electricity bill through. It's only taken them over a year, so of course it's built up a little bit. I just phoned them straight away to sort out a payment plan, just gonna pay it over a few months so that's ok now too.

I've also got in on a lottery syndicate that a mate has set up. There's 6 of us in it and after a bit of deliberation (i.e. me telling him that it makes more sense to do 3 on sat and 3 on wed not all 6 on sat and none on wed) we have got 3 lucky dips that will be played every wednesday and saturday. So this time next year we could be miwlionaires!!

Oh yeah, and i still need to buy a full set of shockers for my car. It's starting to get dangerous now. Oh oh yeah, i still need to book some flights to Spain.

Monday 16th May 2005

Everyone's back from their holidays again. Barry came back to find his car had been broken in to again, there was nothing in there to take and they couldn't get it started - or if they did they were kind enough to park it back where it was. It's a shame people can't find anything better to do with themselves then cause problems for other people. I was watching a program about "happy slapping" the other night, wtf is that all about. Kids waiting around for people to slap and film it on their mobile phones? Causing permenant injuries to some people, scarring them for life. Some people just shouldn't be allowed outside at all.

I'm booking 2 weeks off today, I need a good long holiday. Be nice to get away from everything for a while, I wonder if i'll remember how to do my job when i get back. I might find someone to housesit for me for the 2 weeks as well, I know a few people that wouldn't say no to having an apartment to themselves for a couple of weeks.

Wednesday 18th May 2005

I've calmed down a bit now. I know i've got a month to go till my holiday, but I've still got a ton of work to do. And money seems to be the order of the month, but not for me, everyone else wants mine. I still need to get some money together for my holiday too.

I've run out out of my shampoo that i use as well, the bottle i had lasted over 6 months though, so i can't really complain.

Desperate Housewives tonight.

Thursday 19th May 2005

I haven't actually got a lot to say, but i did want to wish Jennifer a happy birthday for today, so

Feliz cumpleaños, Jennifer bella!!

Yep, my Spanish is unrivaled (I wonder if i got it right?).

Ok, I'll tell a ShEx's drive to work© story. So, I was at the lights just coming off of the magic roundabout in Hemel along the Leighton Buzzard Road and I was at the front on the inside lane. A red corsa drives up in to the outside lane, a foot or so ahead of me. Not that i have a thing against corsas or anything, but i don't let them beat me at any set of lights. So, on the bite, light turns, i'm off and half a car ahead of him. I don't go over 35 there as there are police all over the place down that way in the morning. Next thing i know he's right up my arse (so to speak) and beeping. I beep back and throw him a smile - that might have pissed him off. Then he just kept making hand gestures and followed me for a bit then we went our seperate ways a couple of roundabouts later. Seems he didn't like being beaten. That's it, another boring corsa tale that helps keep me awake on my way to work.

Monday 23rd May 2005

I finally got my shock absorbers saturday, going to call around a few garages to get them fitted this week, find the cheapest place I can. Went round to my Dads yesterday, watched Monaco - not a bad race, the last few laps were worth waiting for. Then we changed the pads on one side of my car - yes, I know, you shouldn't do that, but now they're actually even with the other side, still need to find out why they're wearing unevenly. We actually went to Halfords and bought some new ones, but they turned out to be the wrong ones... Luckily Dad had a spare set in his shed.

We then washed our cars, again. And Top Gear started again last night, I want to play the car football they played.

Wednesday 25th May 2005

They've been doing these censuses around Aylesbury I've noticed over the last couple of weeks. They've just been stopping a few people on one side of the road in a few places. Yesterday I finally got gripped on the way in to Aylesbury. I don't really mind and was a bit curious as to what they were asking anyway, but it was causing huge tails backs, not so bad last night but yesterday morning going into Aylesbury didn't look fun at all. All they asked was, where was I coming from and where was I going. Took all of a minute to tell the guy, I think the guy infront was telling him his life story - took him ages!

I'm getting my new shockers fitted tomorrow!!! I've taken the day off, i figure i'll drop my car off first thing. Go home, chill out (probably some WoW). Jenn's said that I can borrow Chloe (that's her dog) for a day some time, I'm going to take her up to Ashridge, should be cool. Used to go around Ashridge with my grandads dog, Sandy, when i was younger.

Friday 27th May 2005

Looks to be the hottest day of the year so far today, I was able to go out to my car this morning in just my t-shirt!.. Hope the weekend stays something like this, I'm going down to the coast for the weekend - well, after work tomorrow. Should be fun fighting through the bank holiday traffic.

I got my shocks fitted yesterday! finally!! My car is 100% better than it was, i can feel the road again, it doesn't nose dive on breaking or rear up on accelerating. Cornering is much better and it doesn't float around at high speeds. It's cost me a fortune, but at least i'll be driving safe now.

Tuesday 31st May 2005

It was nice to get away for a few days! Left home saturday morning for work and got back last night. As soon as i left work i just forgot about work, bills, all that crap and had a few days of relaxing. The weather was good most of the time, just a bit of light rain sunday afternoon. Had a few beers saturday and sunday night, watched the grand prix - how tense were the last few laps?!!

I'm looking forward to having 2 weeks away next month, i bet the next few weeks are gonna draaaaaag. I'm already planning this weekend, this can't be good.

Damnit, i forgot to put the washing machine on this morning...
